Hey Everyone, Dez here from All Things Venture. Did you guys miss the newsletter last week? No? That’s okay. Yes? Awesome, love to hear it. Like nearly everyone in NYC over these past 10 days, I got Covid. Thankfully, I was only down and out for about two days, and after watching Swan Song, as well as the entirety of a new reality TV series call Twenty Somethings (which is basically a reboot of the Real World), like MJ once said - “I’m Back.”
All jokes aside, today’s article is going to be brief and actually it’s 1 part thank you, 1 part preview of what’s to come. To start with the thank you, I would like to thank all of you, the subscribers of this newsletter. We’re a small but mighty group, and sharing my thoughts, meeting some of you over Zoom, and learning, growing, and building in public has been one of my unexpected joys of 2021. I truly believe that one of the best ways to level up your career, or get to where you want to be - faster, in today’s economy is to participate in the public arena of creating content. Be vulnerable. Be authentic. Be the resource that you wish you had, and good things will happen. I’ve set a personal goal to get this newsletter to 1,000 subscribers by year end 2022. Who knows if that will happen, but I’m sure we’ll have some fun along the way.
On the other side of things, what’s to come - well I have some ideas, and nothing is certain but my plan in 2022 is to do the following:
Introduce a new segment called Operator Spotlight (where we interview people working in tech/startups to share their best practices)
Introduce new, tactical essays on how to get a job in venture + succeed as a new entrant into the industry
Introduce a few longer form essays specifically focused on themes I am investing in/curious about
Continue to write about and cover startups via Startup Spotlight
Continue to write about and cover IPOs with IPO Radar (Thanks Ty!!!)
Continue to share my perspectives on the VC industry writ large (i.e Just Ship It, Everything is Early, Get Used to It, etc.)
And in addition to that plan, I also want to write about… whatever you guys are interested in!!! Part of my job now is to explore the fringes of technology innovation, but also even more bluntly - my job is to build things that people want. I want to practice what I preach, and I want All Things Venture to be a reliable resource of information for you all as much as it is a creative outlet for me. To that end, I figured the best thing to do is to just crowdsource a few ideas/topics from our little community. If you can spare the 2 min, please take this quick survey here - to help direct some of the content ideas that I’ll write about and release in January/February 2022.
But besides that everyone, that’s it for 2021. Let’s make 2022 even better than the last.
Also how elite is that GIF? Take it easy y’all!!! PEACE
